If you've hung around me a lot or if you are my sisters (the two are not mutually exclusive), you know that I have a pair of shoes I call my "25 year old shoes." They are black pointed-toe high heels. I love these shoes. They make me feel... mature, hence the "25" tag. When I got them, I was a mere 21 and 25 felt so much farther away. I'm coming in to my own now with shoes. No longer am I balancing on the crutches of my sisters' opinions. Okay... so that's not true. I'm just leaning on them less. (It's hard to get a text back from a picture you send sometimes. ;p You understand.) I now have 3 pairs of pointy toe shoes! Yup, movin on up in the world. Facing maturity head on and embracing it! Below is an example of the type of shoe to which I am referring just in case I was unclear.
Call me crazy, but I love this type of shoe for 2 reasons.
1) Because the pointy-ness elongates the legs making the shoe-wearer look taller and/or leaner.
2) And because they look mature
If you want to argue about #1, take it up with these two (and no one gets past Stacy and Clinton from What Not to Wear):
As much as I love these shoes, I have a problem with them. You know what the problem is with pointy toe shoes? They are not proportional to your body. Obviously. Because of this, I have tripped more times than is normally destined for me in a day. Is it even right that the people who would wear these shoes are probably naturally clutzy anyway? But to extend the toe on some is just plain cruel. Have I mentioned though that they definitely make you look mature?
Even worse than pointy-toe high heels are pointy-toe medium heels. Practically instruments of death. They should come with a hazard warning. On these inch-or-two- shorter footwears of catastrophe, you aren't even getting enough height to clear the ground with your dagger of doom. Ground clearance is a serious issue as you know. This is equivalent to a minimum of DOUBLE the tripping and embarrassing half-steps that ends up with you squealing and tossing your arms out valiantly to regain balance. But at least you look more mature while doing it, right?
Why wear them? 3 reasons.
1) Because I feel like people take me more seriously when I do
2) Kate Middleton Windsor wears them
3) And... they make me feel mature
I may be 23 but my feet say "I'm 25!" Can't go wrong there! It's so worth the extra hassle! So what are you waiting for? Cast off your white tennis shoes and zest up your wardrobe by spicing up your feet. You'll thank me one day (if you aren't in a cast)!
So what's your footwear of choice?

I can't go without my black peep-toe pumps. My current favorite pair are shoes that I saved for several months to get and they're from White House Black Market. I added some comfort pads in them to make them more bearable, and now I wear them all the time!
ReplyDeleteI prefer lower and more foot shaped shoes, less likely to produce bunions. Do you know any good foot surgeons? Might need one at some stage.
